Polyester T-Shirts For Girls

A T-shirt (or t-shirt, or tee) is a style of unisex fabric shirt named after the T shape of its body and sleeves. It normally has short sleeves and a round neckline, known as a crew neck, which lacks a collar. T-shirts are generally made of a stretchy, light and inexpensive fabric and are easy to clean.

Polyester Or Nylon?

Polyester fabrics perform better than nylon for moisture management because polyester is more hydrophobic. Nylon threads will absorb more water than Polyester, water requires more heat energy to warm than does air, so nylon will feel colder when wet, and stay wet longer, and when saturated impede breathability.

The down-side for polyester is odor retention and durability.

Colour Retention

Polyester is hydrophobic, meaning it does not absorb water. This means that when it is dyed, only the color of the dye dissolves into the fabric (not any water-based), making the dye permanent.

Most t-shirts seem to be made of stretch (loose woven or spandex aided) microfibers, which I believe fall under the form of some sort of polyester. Cycling jerseys and such are also made of polyester, it's all about how the material is woven through. Which is why there are often broad ranges in price for items, not based on what materials are used, but by how intricate the weave of the fabric is to produce.

This is exactly the reason that we use polyester in all our products. It performs better. Another piece of info you might not know is that polyester holds printing much better because it can take higher heat during the printing which causes a better adhesion. Nylon will melt if it is printed at too high of heat. This is a little trade secret that even some manufacturers don't even know.

Polyester fabric or garments will not stretch since polyester have this property. For giving stretch to any garments made of polyester or a mix of these, Lycra is used. Generally, in stretchable jeans, you will find 2% to 7% Lycra (and you will see the difference in stretch for sure as the percentage of Lycra increases).

Choice According To Type

  • It depends whether you are making woven or knitted polyester-cotton fabric. But at the thread level, they don't stretch much.
  • If you consider polyester-cotton knit fabric, then yes, they stretch due to thread loop structure. Commercially, it can be tolerated up to 5% shrinkage after washing.
  • If you consider woven polyester-cotton, they still can stretch but at a significantly lower degree then knit fabric. Commercially, it can be tolerated up to 1% shrinkage after washing.
  • Cotton fibers are less stretchier than polyester filament.
  • Regular polyester are not elastomeric fibers, they do not stretch. However, the fabric or the garment may stretch a little depending on the construction of the fabric. Especially, due to the nature of knitting, the knitted fabrics tend to stretch.
